are they gonna just recon the last season of the original show or are they gonna place this in the timeline somewhere? this show really tried to tie off the show as tight as they could so this might be one of the worst shows to bring back.... storywise.

I recently read a TV Guide article addressing that and, as I recall, the producer or whomever said they'll simply disregard that certain things happened in the last season or its finale, in order to be able to most satisfyingly keep the spirit of the original run of the series alive.
Don't quote me on that, but I'm 99.9% confident that that's what I recall reading.

I think they handled it OK. Relationships end. Did the characters Will & Grace seem like the kind of people that could sustain relationships assuming a certain degree of selflessness needs to exist?

I've located the TV Guide article (winds up it's in the current week's issue) I mentioned earlier. Following is an excerpt from it:
"....(W)hat to do about that 2006 finale in which Will and Grace became estranged for 20 years? Well, it's scrapped. 'We never would have gone in that direction if we weren't ending the show,' [Max] Mutchnick [one of the series' creators] told critics in August. That means no time apart, no spouses and no kids. Will and Grace's apartment has had only a minor facelift, and Jack still regularly bursts in from across the hall, leaving things much the same as in the first 194 episodes...."
So a whole lot is now simply completely conveniently forgotten, like it never happened.
