I wasn't aware they actually knew one another. I didn't think they ever discovered how they knew each other or if it was a random act because Andrew wanted his car. It was strange that Andrew knew his phone number to call him up and it was never explained how or when they met.

I would assume they knew each other because this was the most brutal killing of all of his murders. He stabbed him about 20 times and opened his throat with a hacksaw. That seems personal to me.

I had once read the Vanity Fair article about this case a long time ago, and saw a few documentaries, but I thought they always said they could find no proof that Lee and Andrew knew one another, or that Lee was even gay. They made it seem like it was random because Andrew was looking for another getaway car from his last murder, but they didn't really know.
I didn't notice this myself but someone else said that the show does start out with a disclaimer that some of the scenes are fictionalized for dramatic purposes.

Dangggg- I did not know he did all that to him. I thought it was bad enough what they actually showed Andrew doing to Lee on the garage floor- beating him with a bag of cement? and stabbing him.
Yep, can't get anymore personal. Yikes.

In the episode it seems the wife/family did not want to face it and wouldn't be surprised if there were attempts to cover up the gay truth.
I want to say that the disclaimer was at the end before the credits, but am not 100% sure. Will make a note to notice next time.

Yes, the disclaimer is at the end of the episodes- before the credits.
Episode 4 SPOILERS BELOW
The policeman said Andrew hit Jeffrey Trail with the claw hammer 27 times - wow . It is just awful sad how a cold blooded killer can leave a trail (sorry-no pun intended) of murder victims before getting caught.
