Shintaro est détective au poste de police de Kichijoji à Tokyo, Japon. Il travaille avec Yu Nagamine . Dans sa vie personnelle, Shintaro est marié à Kaori et a trois enfants. Sa femme est actuellement hospitalisée. Dans le passé, le travail de détective de Shintaro était exemplaire, mais après que sa femme soit tombée malade, il s'est concentré sur les soins de sa famille. Le nombre d'arrestations à son poste de police a chuté à cause de ça. Shintaro fait de son mieux pour équilibrer son travail et prendre soin de sa famille, mais c'est difficile. La mère de Karoi, Yoshie propose alors de s'occuper des enfants.

Assistant Inspector Sugiyama Shintaro is a compassionate detective who works for Kichijoji Police Precinct. The cases he has solved are too many to count. Once he comes back home, he is a father to the three children, Miharu, Kaito (Suda Eito) and Gaku (Matsuura Rihito), he has with his beloved wife Kaori. However, he cannot deny that he has sacrificed his family because he has been busy at work. At that very moment, Kaori is fighting against an illness in hospital and his mother-in-law (Takahashi Keiko) is not pleased with him.
