What's most terrifying to me is the idea that groundwater could be radioactively contaminated across 150 miles of territory. It makes Flint Michigan look like a minor inconvenience.
Back in the cold war we saw the Chernobyl as a tiny glance into just how bad it could get. But what I knew about the incident I too was shocked about how many times I exclaimed "That guy is walking dead. All those guys will be dead within weeks or months"! The level of ignorance was worse than I thought.
Not sure how much of the show is dramatized, but I don't remember hearing anything about the scenario presented in episode two, where the molten sand could penetrate into the holding tanks full of water and cause a massive explosion affecting an area with 90 million people. Learning about it now was a real eye opener to just how bad Chernobyl was. I agree with @mustard about the amount of tension - I commented in the other thread about how the pacing is spot on for creating it.
I did remember a documentary that explored the European/Russian Efforts to build a second cover that was rolled into place upon completion. In that show they mentioned the danger of a much worse explosion if the lava melted down . Didn't know about 2-3 Mega ton blast.

I PVR the last episode #5 and watched it...but it misses the ending!!!!
All I got was Jared Harris, Valery Legasov, chucked in the makeshift cell so KGB chief can interrogate him and then the PVR stops .
What happens next?
