Hi LIma! Thanks for the heads-up! It was interesting to see how it all began.
I watched it. Ehh. .. kinda disappointed. It was more like those solo Bailey episodes of its last season. I'm sort of glad exec producer William Orr took over from Roy Huggins' original concept and made it a little more upbeat. For the first few seasons anyway.

My wife and I agree that the last season was dreadful. Jack Webb ruined the tone of the series, and Stuart Bailey was virtually unrecognizable. Ephraim seemed out of sorts about all his co-stars getting axed, and his heart just didn't seem to be in it. Viewers evidently concurred, since the show was canceled on a half order of episodes, and thank goodness they didn't make any more like that.

Agree with both your posts, Klondike and Vranger. Girl On The Run wasn't the Stuart Bailey from the "Strip." If you log in to the MeTV website, they explain that Stuart Bailey was first played by Franchot Tone in a 1947 movie called I Love Trouble, written by Huggins. I've never seen it, but Bailey is described as a 1940's noir detective, more like his pilot character. I wonder if that was Huggins' vision for 77 Sunset Strip? I'm happy that executive producer William T. Orr updated it to the 1950's beat theme. Kookie and Jeff Spencer were nice additions, too.

I hadn't really thought about the pilot having a different motif. I'll have to watch it again. I dubbed most of the series off of my DVR to AVIs, so luckily I can do that on a whim. LOL But now that you mention it, it seems like I read that at sometime in the past.
It's funny how writers like to dredge up their old stuff. That includes me! I just found some old material I wrote back in the early 80s and scanned it. It's fiction, so I can re-edit, then publish it as an eBook and have a second title in my "bibliography". LOL
