Doesn't the fact that people keep reopening this same issue multiple times flag that there's obviously something wrong with the current system?

Keeping the current system makes integration with other APIs and systems very difficult, because they as well as most universal sources expect the additional episodes to be in season 2 not a single monolith season 1!

I'd argue that there'd be less issues if the database structure followed the general convention used by most sources on the internet rather than your own internal guide (TMDB is literally the only site I've seen using this structure, which again screams to me that something needs to be reviewed internally). It'd also be a lot more manageable than having the user paginate through 400+ episode for a "single season".

As far as API integration is concerned, the episode group solution suggested isn't a viable one to determine the correct order/group of things because:

  1. It's an arbitrary list where the label won't always be a consistent way to know what to follow.
  2. It requires multiple extra API calls (which I personally find a waste of resources personally and economically)

My issue is that for a community-driven website, there doesn't seem to be much ongoing communication or compromise from the mod team apart from the same copy and pasted "Please see this previous content report".

If the main issue is the ability to keep an internal track of the overall episode number, we could simply introduce a new "overall_ep_id" field instead similar to how Wikipedia structures it (it could be auto-generated if that makes things easier), without having to mess around with episode groups (and then the UI can be used to relay that same info). Or if it's not a feature you're willing to implement, then the app which needs the overall episode ID can just as easily calculate it themselves through the API as necessary. I'd argue that there's more use for the conventional seasons than the overall episode number (so that should probably take precedence for the default behaviour IMHO, and should work for most users using this database)

@travisbell, I've been following this issue for a fairly long time now hoping it gets resolved internally at some point, but that hasn't been the case, and I'm not sure how else to prompt an internal review of the process.

I believe things like this should be reviewed on a series by series basis, with the community's input being taken seriously, or at the very least having an open dialogue with regards to how best to move forward in a way that works with everyone, since the current guides obviously needs updating.

Hoping this nudges a public discussion amongst the mod team so we can get a viable solution that works for everyone!
