Not too bad considering the boycott by sensitive white men.

See this is where you're going wrong. The fans went to watch a Marvel film most of those going to watch I doubt care much.

I dont think so. I think the fans came out to support the MCU, not necessarily CM and her sex. Money dosent equal quality, look at Alita, like others have mentioned. Better over all film from the reviews and word of mouth but struggling at the box office.

I don't think anyone believes it's gonna go as far as Black Panther (that's an overblown expectation especially with Endgame coming next month and Disney announcing a streaming release of it in June). As long as it does comparable to all other Marvel origin films, which it is already on track of doing, that's as much as can be expected. Meaning none of the controversy hurt it at all, and all it did was give attention to dipshit YouTube clickbaiters to get the attention they got (and a boost to their Patreon). Hell, they probably gave this film an attention boost and made more people want to watch it instead (expecting to find a man-hating dumpster fire of a film).

Oh look, the final tally for the opening weekend for Captain Marvel also beat Wonder Woman's opening weekend: Captain Marvel $153,433,423 ( domestic) $456,718,598 (world wide) - Wonder Woman $103,251,471 (domestic) $228,251,471 (world wide) as well as Aquaman's $67,873,522 (domestic) $162,073,522 (world wide) 😂

Do you think it will break 1 billion world wide? I think it will IF the momentum keeps going like it is now. I honestly didnt think it would be doing so well as it is. I wonder what the drop off will be by next Monday.

No, I've already stated on the other thread about whether or not it will break 1 billion that I don't think it will. I think it will make more akin to Doctor Strange's numbers $232,641,920 (domestic) $677,718,395 (world wide) if not higher. It's about as far as one can expect for this type of film.

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/299537-captain-marvel/discuss/5c7828ca9251412a5d467dec

Even with a steep drop, it's an inevitability at this point. However, even if it only drops 50% next week (like almost every movie ever made), expect people to pop up how that signifies that CM is failing (like they did for every Marvel movie so far). At a 50% drop every week, I calculate it will make in 4 weeks $287,687,668 (domestic), $856,347,371 (world wide), which is in line with what you predicted. Even tracking for 25 weeks (as long as Black Panther was in theaters), it still doesn't make 1bil $306,866,836 (domestic), $913,437,168 (world wide).

Oh crap, I just realized the Box Office Mojo didn't count China's box office. According to this, it made $85.1 mil in China which brings the world wide total to over half a billion.

https://www.screendaily.com/news/captain-marvel-dominates-china-box-office-with-851m-debut/5137534.article

Edit: after doing some calculating (and reading the article below) it looks like it did. BOM's totals always confuse me. Next week it opens in Japan (the only foreign market it hasn't opened to yet), however even with that boost, it's still unlikely it will break 1 Bil.

Huh, in 4 days Captain Marvel made (including the Thursday early release in many theaters): $153,000,000 Domestic $456,285,175 Word Wide

While Alita, Battle Angel made in its entire run: $78,346,064 Domestic $382,659,117 World Wide

What happened to the sensitive white men YouTube/Twitter #ALITACHALLENGE Campaign to get people to watch Alita instead of Captain Marvel that I've been bombard with the last few weeks?

I swear that made me drop more channels in the last two weeks than anything YouTube has put out so far.

Alita is a far better movie and a far better female character than CM,

The one common thread I'm seeing in this repeated bitching is detractors comparing Captain Marvel with Brie Larson, please learn to separate your actors from their jobs. Now Alita is a digitally enhanced CGI Pinocchio like character somehow I didn't feel the same feminine warmth from her as I did from Captain Marvel, but I'm sure Alita was good anyway.

Ah, so you're dismissive of the actress playing Altia. YOU MUST HATE WOMEN. But seriously, digital performances have just as much merit, just watch any Andy Serkis film or Wall-E. That argument is invalid. And "feminine warmth"? Yeah ok sure, and I got more "feminine energy" from Alita since we are making up terms.

Alita has an actual arc. She starts off one way and through the course of the story learns and grows and becomes a better person than she ways. CM starts off as one way and stays that way throughout the entire story. Yes she gets powers and gets her memory back, but there's no real change in her performance between the beginning and the end.

If you want to die on this hill for a subar movie just because it's Marvel or because it's a female be my guest, but Alita is simply a recent film with a superior female lead and CM will most likely be the worst of the MCU releases this year, and last year since Antman and the Wasp was funnier.

I'm always confused when people say Alita is successful (said it again to help you with your goal to buy the site). It had a production budget of 170 million, and only made $78,346,064 (domestic), $382,659,117 (world wide). By the metric (everyone accepts) of needing to make at least 2x it's budget to break even and not be a considered a bomb, this movie barely broke even if it actually did since they get a smaller percentage of foreign box office. Estimates state this movie actually needed to make over $500 million world wide to succeed. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/02/18/alita-battle-angel-movie-box-office-figures-budget-success/

I don't care if it's a success or not I just need losers to stop venting their sexual tension at Brie through a completely unrelated movie. Playing off Alita against Captain Marvel is honest to God the most pathetic thing I've seen. At the end of the day it's the studios who walk off with hundreds or millions not either fanbase.

Yeah and broke like 3 more records I believe, dont remember if I posted them in this topic or another one. The mouse/MCU are basically masterminds when it comes to planning and launching a film. DC should take notes.

This is hilarious. It's like the text version of a train wreck. We're comparing CM to Alita because our support for Alita completely destroys your "you're sexist and just don't want to see a strong female character kick butt you incel manbaby" argument, so you've shifted to this being about money.

CM is the 21st movie in a massive box office franchise that had a lot of good will behind it, that opened in the most number of theaters second only to Infinity War, and opened in all markets on the same day so of course it was going to make money (but even still didn't make as much as other MCU movies despite all these advantages).

And as for the "Alita isn't a box office hit" people, Alita has managed to have some staying power and a growing fanbase despite being an unusual sci-fi film based on an unpopular property in February with an untested star that was expected to be a complete bomb similar to Mortal Engines. No it's not a huge hit, but it's fighting an uphill battle and the people who have seen it loved it and don't understand why the same people who seemingly care about "strong female heroes" completely ignored this film.

That's because it's not about that. Many of these feminists types don't really care in that respect. This is about the MCU specifically, a franchise made up mostly of men not having a major female lead, and according to reports 61% of CM's audience were male while comparatively 52% of Aquaman's audience was women. NOT AS MANY WOMEN SAW CM AS DID AQUAMAN.

So really to people championing CM and getting angry about the fact it sucks or at least isn't as good as Alita are feminists looking for their MCU icon regardless of quality and weak willed "soy boy" men white knighting for women who have voluntarily inverted their penises into clitoral hoods in order to appear virtuous online.

And you're not appearing "virtuous online" by white knighting for Alita? You stupid transparent hypocritical slug.

Okay let me explain this for your low iq mind. We are using Alita *as a comparison* of a good movie with a great female lead that actually deserves more attention since everyone claiming CM is the first female superhero has seemingly forgot about Wonder Woman, YOU are defend CM simply because she's a woman who is an admitted sexist and being attacked for her sexism and you want to defend her honor. Definition of a white knight:

1) A man who stands up for a womens right to be an absolute equal, but then steps up like a white knight to rescue her any time that equality becomes a burden.

2) A man who Promotes gender equality but practices special privilege for women.

So yeah that's you.

On top of this as stated Brie Larson is an intersectional feminist, which basically means she thinks all women are oppressed victims and all men are potential rapists and it turns my stomach that not only has she been handed a huge role despite not being that good of an actress but men are defending her even though if they approached her for an autograph she'd mace them and go on twitter and complain about how she feared for her life.

But yeah I guess some men will defend a woman that hates them no matter what. I assume this is a side effect of having an inverted penis.
