With its extended theatre run feeding almost directly into IMAX, could Barbie hit $1.5Bn?

I think that it's a pleasant change that someone is celebrating the success of a movie/show on this site. Way too many posters are obsessed with damning films and shows from the moment they're announced and beyond.

@Damien, DRD created a thread to talk about it here. If you want to discuss the film's plot, that's an excellent place. Meanwhile, this thread was created to discuss the film's pre-supposed (by the OP) imminent fate of flopdom. Barbie obviously did the exact opposite of flopping, and right here, on this thread, therefore, is the right place for anyone who may wish to continue documenting and discussing and, indeed, celebrating it's remarkable success.

Damien, this thread, since months back, has been the people saying it's gonna flop or that it doesn't stand a chance vs. the people saying either "wait and see" or "not so fast!" or "why do you keep moving the victory line?!".

DRD, of the latter posters, is of late taking victory laps while also providing timely latest box office updates.

Seems like the poster who said that might have been entitled to his opinion about it flopping.

Unfortunately they don't seem to want to join in with this discussion.

Yep. Hit and run.

People sharing opinions? No problem.

I gave the OP and any sympathizers the presumption of good faith by engaging the convo to ask for some reasons why they saw this movie flopping. None were forthcoming by the OP, but others chipped in. And we said, okay, let's see as the movie makes its way through its theatrical release.

As genplant has reminded, through each stage of Barbie's apparent success, most of the naysayers avoided/skirted giving credit where it was due or even owning their crap, choosing rather to keep moving the target. And each time Barbie hit the new target, they just moved it again. No accountability, that'a bad faith.

There were a few naysayers who conceded. I recognized them and always will. Respect to any human being who can admit when they are wrong. Shouldn't be a big deal, we're all human. I admit when I'm wrong here on TMDb all the time, and have little patience for those who can't. Some even get blocked (you know who you are, dahlings).

So, for those having difficulty with reading comprehension or just following the bouncing ball, who apparently couldn't have pieced this together from reading through the thread on their own, this where we're at.

PS Barbie is still in theatres, so its financial performance has not concluded yet. I didn't start this thread, but I'm free to see it through along with all/any who are similarly inclined; those who aren't are equally free to engage other threads, including one I did start that does talk more about the movie's story/message etc. Or start your own!

Damien, was it also "constant jibes" when naysayers on the thread were earlier maintaining, week after week, that this film's financial success was doomed to certain failure, even when they appeared reaching, and like they were giddy for it to fail, while doing so?

PS: This thread's OP self-deleted their account on 3 July 2017, same day they created this thread (and that they joined TMDb just long enough to troll the boards), so presumably never has seen or read anything anyone's ever responded/commented here.

You're a nice guy, genplant! I gave up expecting any kind of reasonable exchange with Damien (a master of jibes and ad hominem and general nastiness) long ago — that's why he's not only on my very short blocklist but has also shown little that compels me to reconsider re-engaging with the likes of him.

DRD is the board's resident statistician when it comes to the commercial success/floppage of films. For those of us who dabble in, or have plans to dabble in, or are just curious about the profit side of cinema he provides a VERY useful resource.

In other words, I'm grateful that DRD is keeping us updated on the progress of the Barbie phenomenon which has clearly shattered all expectations (certainly the OP's 😂) and possibly signaled a shift in the tone of films moving forward. Haters gotta face it: this movie is significant.

The fact that each update is also twisting the knife for the haters is icing on the cake. 😉 Keep twisting... er... keep updating, DRD!

Then a statistics and analysis website should be created for those that wish to partake like you.

There is none. What's your problem with actual filmmakers & producers using tmdb as discussion board?

@Damien, you're not subscribed to this thread (according to the screen of who all's subscribed here [btw, I'm not subscribed to this thread either, and never have been]), so I don't really understand why DRD adding perfectly legit and valid box office stats updates here - as also now and then some others do - bugs you any at all. Him - as well as anyone else - doing so absolutely is appropriate for this thread.

TMDB is a film website not a statistical financial services company. When a user posts that Barbie made $200 million today there's not really much to discuss you can't argue with numbers. The thread is becoming about how studios are getting richer off Barbie and has deviated from the original point which was to prove the OP wrong into a topic about corporations getting richer and celebrating that greed.

There are other threads that TMDb shows listed for this movie, where anyone who wishes may engage. This thread isn't required reading for anyone who doesn't want to read it. The people who've continued participating on this thread apparently, and seemingly, feel like continuing to read, presumably remain some extent of interested in what's being newly added, and, whenever desiring, comment or share something.

TMDB is a film website not a

...site for being a total jerk to others, either, but we all know that's never stopped Damien before, has it?

For all our efforts to be civil to others even in disagreement, finger-wagging on "what this site is" from HIM is rich. FOH.

If this dude, all of a sudden, is so concerned about what the site is, start with the man in the mirror, he should be asking HIMSELF to change HIS ways.

Damien, The OP created their account, started this thread & then DELETED their account!

When did the forum become a place to troll trolls if that's the case? It's already known that Barbie has made a billion but the forum is becoming a box office statistics website instead of a discussion forum.

So MOVE ON to another thread! No one is forcing you to continue on this thread.
