When the thread is repeatedly bumped to the top of the page it becomes an issue.

Hit the STOP WATCHING LINK ON THE LEFT & YOU WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED! Easy Peasy.

Damien, how many HOURS have you been on this thread today, keeping the thread monopolized with your opinion about DRD's frequent posting of stats, when all you needed do was make a remark or two to that effect and then just stop checking this thread further and ignore it hereafter?

DRD's posting of box office stats is not in any way, shape, or form off-topic on this thread.

@Damienracer said:

Please don't think you can dictate how much a poster posts on a thread it's arrogant.

The person trying to dictate how much someone comments is you, about DRD. I've dictated nothing, which anyone reading my words on this thread can readily see.

Don't be arrogant.

Damien, showing your ass now, and uneffectively trying to insult me, serves no constructive purpose. You've generated ALL of the debating that has ensued here today. You stated at the outset your opinion about DRD's posting of box office stats, repeated that opinion in multiple subsequent comments, keep the combative comments coming when anyone disagrees with your opinion, so it's seeming impossible for everyone to move on unless you assist.

@Damienracer said:

Please don't think you can dictate how much a poster posts on a thread it's arrogant...The posting of stats hourly is compulsive, repetitive and unnecessary.

Isn't that what you're trying to do?

If I were you, and hated this thread/DRD's postings I'd unsubscribe and add him/her to my blocked user list.

@Damienracer said:

No, saying DRD is obsessed with box office numbers isn't dictating anything.

But you are trying to police the direction of the thread.

@Damienracer said:

Those seem more like opinions you don't like than an attempt to police anything.

That seems more like an attempt to avoid admitting that you are trying to steer the thread in a direction you approve of.

@Damien, a final comment I wish to add...

Various posters have commented, over time, publicly, to DRD (as well as to me privately), they consider him one of the very best and most interesting, positively-engaging posters on TMDb's boards. (I fully agree.) It's decidedly other than the norm for anyone to opine that he ruins the forum experience for others.

Damienracer, genplant specifically said in the first part of his statement that posters here have publicly commented that they appreciate DRD's contributions. Myself among them. It should be abundantly clear that DRD's contributions are appreciated.

Hey gang,

This thread shouldn't be about me, so I'll just say this real quick and, hopefully, we can get back to tracking Barbie's theatrical release financial performance for those interested.

Yes, I rub some people the wrong way. There are people on this board who rub me the wrong way.

It was way back in grade 2 that I learned that, no matter how nice I try to be, there will always be some who just don't/won't like me; and, no matter how much of an a-hole someone can be, there always seems to be some who will love them regardless. So, I don't sweat it, and neither should anyone else.

Most of us come to this board to a) share what we have to offer and b) listen to/learn from others who, at the same time, are sharing what they have to offer.

We will agree and disagree more or less with some or others. That's public discourse.

Engaging in good faith means being able to demonstrate knowledge of the fact that I can't always be right, and others can't always be wrong. I can be wrong. I can make mistakes. I CAN say "hey, sorry about that, my bad, I retract, good point, I never saw it that way, hmmm interesting take..." Those who never concede, who are never wrong, betray bad faith that, in my opinion, makes constructive discourse impossible. And then there are those who obviously are only interested in being obstinate, offensive, take every opportunity to personally insult others and are otherwise just generally miserable.

So, I block some, avoid others, but there will still be times when we cross paths in a thread. I try very hard not to resort to ad hominem (and the written record of discussions on this thread are open for anyone to see if/to what degree I've stuck to that successfully). I prefer, best I can, to stick to the topic. Regardless, some people may not like my contributions. Sorry if I ruin TMDb for you but, as is so oft foisted when the shoe is on the other foot, since my intention is not to ruin things or offend, then it's on those who are offended to deal with their problem of being offended. That's how it works, right? (I don't believe that, but those who do should live by the medicine they feed others).

Hopefully, we can play nicely together in this sandbox. Agree, disagree, have varying viewpoints, just observe some basic rules of engagement and common courtesy and all should be fine. It's only asking too much from those engaging in bad faith, but they'll lose their voice as they get blocked and, eventually, suspended altogether. And, as we've seen recently, some people never learn, and seem determined to push every accommodation of this board until suspension is the only reasonable recourse....but I digress...

Most of us came to TMDb when Amazon acquired IMDb and shut down its message boards. Talking about movies is a passion for many, and it's fun and awesome to learn about movies from so many passionate, informed, studied people with interesting things to share.

Too many other movie message boards out there on the interweb are a hot mess. TMDb yet remains a decent place. The moderators work hard to keep it that way — let's help them out by making their job easier, not harder.

You can get back to to posting whatever you want but other users also have the right to think you're not a good fit

Yes, you have that right. And you've expressed it. And you've been heard. What else do you need?

Posting the weekly financials of a film isn't discussing movies

Yeah, it kinda is.

it's you celebrating corporate greed

There are so many levels of wrong with this statement, I'm not even sure where to begin.

Damien, others also still post box office updates and the such here some weeks. Not solely DRD.

Whatever the case, parties agreeing to disagree and then turning the page and talking about whatever else, or simply putting the other person on ignore, is always good.

Well, time to get back to Barbie. I found this article on the records it has broken as of the time of publication (September 12th): https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2023-09-12/barbie-streaming-records-broken-box-office

Huge props to Greta G for cracking the billion-dollar-boys-club!

“ “Barbillion” also makes Gerwig the only solo female director to have a movie reach the billion-dollar mark. Only 28 directors in Hollywood history have had the sole directing credit on a billion-dollar movie — and they’re all men (most made male-oriented and franchise-driven films).

I’ve been a huge fan of female directors going all the way back to Ida Lupino, Agnès Varda and more recently Julie Taymor & Sarah Polley …all basically unknown in the mainstream. I hope Greta’s huge win puts female directors in the spotlight and shakes up the old men running Hollywood for the last 100 years.

Let's not forget Margot Robbie. She is the one who took on the 'Barbie' project with her production company LuckyChap Entertainment (cofounders Tom Ackerley (husband), Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara). She, as a producer, had to convince the Warner Bros. and Mattel executives to back the project. Her choice of Greta Gerwig to direct and rewrite the script was a masterstroke. The production did not go without a hitch as they had to contend with the usual interference from executives, including the post-production editing. The fantastic cooperation between these two women guaranteed the success of this dream project.
