The Movie Database Support

Hi there, on the sign up screen I saw one of the "Benefits of being a member" of "Log the movies and TV shows you have watched", but I could not how to do it on the web UI or the API documentation. Could you please help me understand how this works and if this is also supported in API? Thanks.

Hi there,

but I could not how to do it on the web UI or the API documentation.
Could you please help me understand how this works

on the web UI
Being on the homepage of a movie, just below the title (year), next to the Poster,
you can see a circle with the percentage of user evaluation.
On the same line, then to the right, there are 4 other dark circles.
Hovering over them will give you an indication of what each one is.

  • Lists - Your personal created by you.
  • Favorites - Add the movie to your Favorites list
  • Watchlist - Add the movie to your Watchlist
  • Rating - Select the rating you want to give the movie.

To access these lists on the WEB interface, go to your profile
by clicking on your icon in the upper right corner next to the magnifying glass.
On your profile, just below the wide dark bar at the top are the 5 shortcuts:
Overview, Discussions, Lists, Ratings and Watchlist.
See the options in each of them.

is also supported in API?

Thank you very much @ticao2 for your detailed answer. I thought there is something like "mark as watched" and a watched mark on the movie.

I believe the Watchlist icon flag turns red when you clicked on the icon to add to your Watchlist.

Thanks but isn't Watchlist for "movies you haven't seen but want to watch"

The Reelgood app and website will keep track of movies you haven't seen but want to watch, and also movies you have already watched.

the Reelgood app and website will keep track of movies you haven't seen but want to watch. I think JustWatch will also do that, but I don't use it.

Thank you very much @pt100 , Reelgood has the feature I was talking about, and some others features I was looking for too.

Just to add a note, here on TMDB we would maintain that list through your ratings. If you've watched it, rate it. You can track your personal list that way.

Nice, I'll just rate all the movies I've watched as .5 star, since I don't actually want to rate them.

2 1/2 stars would be a neutral rating, if you just want to mark the movie as seen.

Yes, as I recall, they double the star count to get back to a 10-point scale.

While "neutral" for your purposes, doing that (rating everything 2.5, which becomes a rating of 50% on TMDb) will cause widespread rating inaccuracies for users who want to be able to refer to credible ratings that reflect actual realistic viewer opinion of each movie or show in question. A 50% rating on a movie or show suggests you consider it barely worth watching (even if you loved it).

How about, instead, adding everything you've watched, that you don't want to give an individualized rating, to a custom list you create on your TMDb user page? (See my page, for samples of the sort of thing I'm referring to. You could name your list something like "Movies & Shows I've Watched".) It would take no longer to do, and is just as easy.

yes. but can I filter those movies out of my search?

I don't believe there's a way to do that via a list.

ah, so this is not a solution to search filters

Why can't I just mark something as watched? What if I just don’t remember whether I like it or not?
